Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com)

“Bachelor of Commerce, abbreviated as B. Com is an undergraduate degree in commerce and related subjects. The course is designed to provide students with a wide range of managerial skills and understanding in streams like finance, accounting, taxation and management”. Bachelor of commerce offers understanding in Accounting, Economics, Business Law, Taxation, Insurance and Management.

The history of Commerce in higher education is nearly 102 years old. Madras became a pioneer state where it started in 1886. The Government of Madras laid the foundation of commerce education by setting-up commercial institute in Madras. In India, Commerce education at university level made its first beginning in 1913 when Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics was established in Bombay. The Bachelor of Commerce (B.com) degree was first offered at the University of Birmingham.

Individuals also have the option to pursue higher studies after B.com. They can apply for Master of Commerce (M. Com) or Master of Business Administration (MBA). M.Com is the postgraduate course focuses on commerce, accounting, management and economics-related subjects. The Master of Commerce includes 2 years of full-time study.     The program is redesigned under NEP 2020 which is based on Learning Outcome Based
    Curriculum Framework (LOCF) so as to provide students with a wide range of managerial
    skills and understanding in streams like finance, accounting, taxation and management. The
    Bachelor of Commerce program prepares you for a career in accounting, banking, financial
    management, information systems and management.
    Upon completion of B. Com Degree Programme, the graduates will be able to:

Candidates should have passed higher secondary examination with not less than 50% marks
from a recognized board. Candidates having academic background in science, commerce and
arts stream are eligible to apply for this course.
B.com is one of the most sought courses after 12th. According to the New Education Policy
[NEP], the programme structure and curriculum has been revised. The concept of
multidisciplinary is introduced where a student has multiple entry and exit option in the
programme.

Each year consists of two semesters with a total of 8 semesters. Two internal assessment examinations are conducted for each course during a semester. At the end of each semester, an external assessment examination is conducted for all the courses opted in a semester.
